Webinar 89: Creative Commons @ 25 years

Happy Friday – we hope you are keeping safe and warm with storms hitting the UK at the moment! We have exciting news about our Copyright Waffle webinar schedule with our November and December webinars now available for booking.

On Friday 27th November from 10.30-12pm (GMT) we are pleased to be hosting our 89th webinar where we are joined by Brigitte Vézina the Director of Policy at Creative Commons. The webinar requires registration but is open to all.

This year, Creative Commons marks 25 years of powering the world’s open sharing—a quarter century of building the legal, technical, and social infrastructure that enables open knowledge, creativity, and collaboration worldwide. Today, CC licenses and tools from an integral part of the open infrastructure and have enabled the sharing of bilions of works in the commons — from scholarly publishing to new art and creativity, all the way to OERs and more.

As AI reshapes how we create, connect, and engage with the commons, how do we continue to help people share and sustain a thriving commons? How do we continue to encourage equitable access to heritage in the digital environment? How can the principles underpinning the social contract of the commons guide us in addressing AI’s most urgent impact? During this webinar, CC’s Director of Policy Brigitte Vézina will highlight some of the fun ways to get involved in the 25th anniversary celebration, provide a comprehensive overview of the Open Heritage Statement and our community efforts to create a new UNESCO Recommendation, and offer key updates on the development of CC Signals as a new tool to help people share openly and confidently in the age of AI.

And for those who like to get dates in their diary soon as the festive season is fast approaching, Webinar 90 being held on 18th December 2026, will be once again our Big Fat Copyright Quiz of the year and you can register here. Stay safe and warm all and have a lovely weekend!
