Join us at 11.00am on Friday 21 March, 2025 for our latest webinar when Ben Catt, Andrew Johnson and Liesl Rowe from the Academic Libraries North (ALN) Copyright Community of Practice will be joining us to reflect on how guidance and support for copyright and AI have been delivered, and where challenges have arisen at their respective institutions.
They look forward to sharing their thoughts and experiences with the community and opening up for wider discussion.
The Academic Libraries North (ALN) Copyright Community of Practice is co-chaired by Neil Sprunt at the University of Manchester and Kate O’Neill at the University of Sheffield. The community emerged from the NoWAL Copyright Group in 2021 and exists to promote and share good practice and ideas between copyright practitioners at ALN member institutions.

Ben Catt has worked at the University of York Library in various roles since 2014, and as Open Research Librarian since 2020. His main focus is on co-ordinating research community initiatives such as the Open Research Advocates network, Open Research Awards scheme, events and communications. He also delivers skills training and support to postgraduates and staff across the University in areas including open research practices and principles, open access publishing and (especially) copyright and open licensing.

Andrew Johnson works in the copyright team at the University of Sheffield Library, as Scholarly Communications Librarian for copyright and licensing. He provides guidance on copyright and licensing issues to staff and postgraduate research students at the university, both via an email enquiry service and frequent training sessions. He has advised colleagues on copyright, TDM and genAI issues, wrote the University’s web page on genAI and copyright, and previously published an open access article on considerations for library staff advising on AI and copyright.

Liesl Rowe is the Senior Digital Library Advisor at Leeds Beckett University, with a prior background in acquisitions at other HE institutions. She is responsible for the digitisation and copyright clearance services, offering advice to staff and students on any copyright queries which might arise. She also works closely alongside LBU’s accessibility team, providing alternative texts which meet the access needs of our students. In addition to her work with Leeds Beckett, she is a member of the ALT COOLSIG committee.
How to join: The webinar will start at 11.00am, and you can access it via the usual Blackboard Collaborate link. A recording will be available afterwards on the ALT YouTube channel along with recordings of all our other webinars.
