Icepops 2024: Copyright and the Human Being

We’re extremely excited to announce the fifth edition of Icepops (Icepops 2024) is happening – this time as a Pocket Edition (meaning on a slightly smaller, but no less inspiring or fun, scale). Icepops 2024 will be held at Leeds Beckett University (city campus) on Thursday 5th September and Friday 6th September 2024. The main conference will start at lunchtime on 5th September and include an evening social. The ALT CoOL SIG AGM will take place on the morning of Friday 6th September and we’ll be arranging tours of local libraries. We are delighted to welcome Liesl Rowe from Leeds Beckett University to join the local organising committee of Icepops.

Our confirmed keynote speaker is long-time friend of Icepops Kyle K Courtney, Copyright Advisor, Harvard University.

We are working hard to keep the costs as low as possible and also to ensure speakers, students and CILIP / ILG members get a discounted rate of just £40 (including VAT). Bookings will open in a few weeks, but do hold the date. We are very grateful to our confirmed sponsors for their financial support and these currently include: CREATe, CLA, ERA and ALT.

Conference theme: With everyone talking about AI, the theme of this year’s conference is ‘Copyright and the Human Being‘ and we are looking for presentations on this topic or one of our sub-themes which include:

  • Navigating systems;
  • Building communities;
  • Breaking the rules

The call for papers is open until Monday 3rd June and the full conference programme will be published in mid June. As with previous editions, Icepops 2024 will once again include: Lightning talks, World Cafe presentations and of course the ever popular evening social with food, drinks, chat and song. After the conference on 6th September we will hold the ALT Copyright and Online Learning Special Interest Group AGM and tours of several libraries in Leeds.

So what are you waiting for? Submit your proposal today and hold the date in your diary!
