We are delighted to have Alex Fenlon joining us at our next webinar on Friday September 8th at 11am to talk all things artificial intelligence and copyright. Join us as usual on Blackboard Collaborate – no need to register.

Alex Fenlon is the Head of Copyright & Licensing in Library Services at the University of Birmingham.  Alex and his team cover all aspects of copyright across the whole institution from dealing with e-resource licence reviews, advising the institution on policy issues like rights retention policies, and working with researchers supporting text and data mining activities.  The team includes the Digitisation Service which scans print items for reading lists, historic theses and supports users with disabilities by providing accessible texts. Alex also sits on Liber’s copyright and legal affairs working group.

In recent months Alex has been supporting his institution in its consideration of emerging AI technologies.  The sector’s focus seems very much to be on the impact upon teaching and assessment, with guidance on how to use these tools.  There seems to be little discussion about the should nor the copyright and privacy concerns.  Alex will talk through a blog post he recently wrote for PGRs  beginning to surface some of the challenges around the use of these tools.
