Copyright Waffle with Icepops keynote Monica Westin

Monica, Jane and Chris in front of the Old Bodleian Library

We are very excited to announce that we have a new episode of our podcast Copyright Waffle, this time with Icepops 2025 keynote Monica Westin.

Monica is about to start a new role as Director of Open Policy Development at Cambridge University Press and Assessment. Her previous roles involved work at the California Digital Library, Google, the Internet Archive and Manchester Metropolitan University. As a result Monica has had a ringside seat at some of the most interesting recent developments in copyright, scholarship and the information profession.

Our conversation teases Monica’s forthcoming Icepops keynote which is called “Atomic Scholarship: Reassembling authorship and research impact in the age of AI-synthesized knowledge” and covers a wide range of legal and ethical questions associated with new technology and the process of creating, finding and accessing information. And of course we have time for the obligatory discussion about her favourite cake.

We hope you enjoy listening to the podcast as much as we did talking to Monica in June 2025 when we recorded this episode. We hope to see as many of you as can make it to Icepops on 9-10 September 2025 in the great city of Manchester.

With thanks to Aiden Clark for his editing support on this episode.
