We’re really pleased to release the latest episode of Copyright Waffle our podcast that brings you a nice drop of copyright enlightenment, with a slice of cake! In the UK the weather forecast is good, so what better way to enjoy the sunshine, than tuning in to listen to Episode 27 with Carl Magnus Palm. Carl Magnus is an author and the world’s leading expert on all things ABBA. This episode was recorded in the depths of winter in 2022, but we caught up with Carl Magnus again more recently to record the intro. 2024 has been a busy year for him with the 50 year anniversary of ABBA winning Eurovision. He’s also got a new book out in addition to appearing on several BBC programmes celebrating the ABBA anniversary.
In the podcast we discuss ABBA’s origins and the division of creative labour in the band, how the band got their name, the ABBA revival in the 1990s and how they have responded to the huge number of tribute acts. They also share stories of the authorised and unauthorised uses of ABBA’s music and once again get dragged into the weird world of the KLF.
We are also once again eternally grateful to our podcast editor, Emma Guilbert, who has now finally helped us clear our editing backlog. Finally I’d like to dedicate this episode to the memory of my lovely cat Pickle, who spent the afternoon curled up on the sofa while we chatted with Carl Magnus (see above photo from the recording).
